The World is Sick

The cure is at hand.

Gregorian

It’s 2010. New years used to mean something. They carried with them an opportunity to leave the mistakes of the past behind, and to start afresh. To attempt to become stronger, faster, and more productive. The start of a new year used to let me begin a new chapter, free from the burdens of the previous one.

It is apparent now that the only reason this was ever possible was that the school year coincided with the calendar year. It didn’t matter what projects I screwed up, or what tests I failed, because after each year, the slate was wiped clean. Not any more.

For some reason, the academic year of practically every institution worldwide, pays no attention to the Gregorian calendar whatsoever. It is instead seasonal. Because of this, I get to carry a lot of baggage over from the past year into the next.

The only thing new about the new year is that now I have to get used to writing new dates.

I can’t remember when I was last optimistic about something.
