Life Support Systems: ONLINE
It has been slightly more than a week in Sydney now. I think I’ve settled in quite nicely, and despite the excessive complaining in my previous post, I’m actually enjoying myself here. Work in the lab has begun, so I the time that I go without internet service is becoming less noticeable. The people in my lab are all quite nice, though they tend to keep to themselves. I personally don’t mind this at all.
The lab itself is not all that different from the ones at NYP. It sort of has the same atmosphere, minus the people. The main difference is that I have a bench to call my own now. It’s pretty cool, having your own box of gloves, tissues, and wipes. Also, my own freezer box and designated fridge space. One other great thing about the lab here is that reagents are all in pretty much the same place, organised alphabetically. Back in NYP I just memorised the locations of all the items I needed and hoped that no one would decide to reorganise while I needed them.
Given that I’ve survived here, keeping my own schedule, eating food that I had a hand in preparing and cleaning up after myself, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that I probably wouldn’t have much trouble living alone. I can certainly see myself living in an apartment similar to this one day, except with high speed internet. And a proper shower head. Also a table in my room so that I don’t have to use half the bed to keep my stuff. Yeah, I took the queen-size.
Ah, and Samson is starting to get a little annoying. His sense of humour is particularly aggravating during times when things aren’t going perfectly. Or maybe it’s not actually humour that he’s attempting. I can’t really tell, but his tendency to state the obvious at every opportunity makes me want to gag him momentarily.
Hence, I can’t wait for Gerard to get here. Samson will have someone else to annoy then.
Man, I wish I had some pictures to upload. I keep forgetting to transfer them from my hard disk.
